Don't come to Prapic looking for a cathedral or castle... it's culture is far more modest - in simple words it is rich in being.
Built under the blessing of the church of Saint Anne, the classic dry stone houses, with their almost austere alpine character are evidence enough to the history of this hamlet and the tough life of its inhabitants.
Right at the end of the valley and surrounded by imposing mountains and cols, such as the Tourettes and Freissinieres (giving you access by foot to the Val de Durance), Prapic gained a reputation of being 'the end of the world, where even flies avoided!' An image undoubtedly earned by the inhabitants who have survived for generations in this remote village far away from any towns or commerce.
Situated at the gateway to the Ecrins National Park, the village is the starting point for numerous walks and treks suitable for all levels like the 'tombeau du poète', the 'plateau de Charnière', the 'saut du Laire'...
There is also the marmotte park and a museum exhibiting traditional craftmanship and skills.
There are two auberges in the village offering local specialities such as tourtons (pastry cases with a variety of fillings), les creuzets (a pasta and cream dish) and local lamb.

A great family walk. After experiencing the charm of Prapic village, follow the Ecrins National Park signs to the Saut du Laire. The path climbs gently up to the plateau de Charniere. Look out for marmots as you cross the plateau! The path continues climbing past the Chapelle de la Saulce, before arriving at the fabulous "Saut du Laïre" (jump of the theif) waterfall at 1886m.

Point d'accueil au village avec l'Office de Tourisme d'Orcières 1850. Du 27 juin au 30 août, tous les jours de 9h00 à 12h15 et de 13h45 à 18h00. Du 1er au 26 juin et du 31 août au 27 septembre, les lundis, vendredis, samedis et dimanches, de 11h00 à 12h30 et de 13h à 17h. Rencontre avec les gardes moniteurs du Parc National des Ecrins tous les mercredis de 11h à 12h.
