Valley of Champoléon

The Champoléon valley is a haven of unspoilt nature, just a stone’s throw from Orcières.

An unspoilt valley

A neighbouring valley to Orcières, the Champoléon valley peacefully follows the course of the Drac Blanc, offering visitors a wild, authentic mountain landscape, full of traditions. Plunging into the heart of the Ecrins National Park, the Champoléon valley is surrounded by peaks of over 3000m, dominated by the Sirac (3440m).

A kingdom of herds, the star of which is the tardon – a spring lamb reared in the mother’s womb and then in the mountain pastures, celebrated each autumn when the animals are removed from the mountain pastures – the valley is also home to a large population of chamois and ibex. You can get to know the world of pastoralism at the Maison du Berger.

From one season to the next...

This valley, with its vertiginous verticality and minerality, is paradoxically far from being reserved for the mountaineering elite or experienced hikers. The enchanting valleys of the Champoléon valley are ideal for family walks and hikes.

Take the opportunity to enjoy the unique experience ofa night in a refuge: a friendly place where you can meet other people, the refuges allow you to immerse yourself totally in the mountain world…

In winter, the Haut-Champsaur Nordic ski area criss-crosses the hamlets of the Champoléon valley, from Les Garnauds to Les Baumes, giving you the chance to enjoy the peace and quiet and the verticality of the landscape on cross-country skis.
