The final podium places are not necessarily decided at this stage of the race. However, the climbers who are well behind in the general classification have been clearly identified, some of whom are still in excellent form. Now is the time for them to go for the victory that has eluded them so far – or, why not, to do it all over again. A showdown between the young guns is therefore on the cards on the climb to Orcières-Merlette.
